The Office of Child Support Services Peer Education program is an innovative program designed to promote responsible parenting and to encourage young people to delay having a child until they are financially and emotionally ready. The program is titled No Kidding: Straight Talk from Teen Parents. It employs Peer Educators, who are/were teen parents. They meet with adolescent and young adults in the NYC Department of Education high schools, educational and community based programs, and correctional facilities through-out all five boroughs of New York City. The workshops provided focus on the realities of being a teen parent. The program includes modules on understanding paternity and Child Support, the cost of raising a child in NYC, as well as elements that contribute to maintaining a healthy and committed relationship before having a child.
